Gear & Gadgets...

We gave the FL6 LumaRay a fairly detail First Look review back in May.  A little while ago, we found out that LumaRay had updated their futuristic flash light by increasing the number of LEDs in the head module.  We, of course, had to see it for ourselves!

The LumaRay FL12 came in the same cleverly designed shipping box.  It also was exactly the same size as the FL6 head.  The only difference is the 6 additional white LEDs in the center of the unit.

A quick unclamp/replace/reclamp and we were done with the upgrade :-)  A twist of the head and were greeted with the same blinding bluish white light... only brighter!

In the photo, the extra contribution by the additional 6 LEDs is easy to see.  The light cone is wider and the center beam is brighter.  Nice upgrade!

The question now is... what to do with the extra FL6 head?

FL12

By Wan Chi Lau

LumaRay wanted to completely rethink the common flashlight.  What they came up with was anything but common!

They came up with the FL6 : Six super bright LED, a polycarbonate Xenoy body, and is waterproof up to 15 feet.

Now they have a new head: the FL12 with... you guessed it... a total of 12 LEDs!

Review Summary:

Initial Impression- Brighter than FL6

Usability- Simple

Durability- Test in progress

Price- $120 (August,2005)
