Gear & Gadgets...

We have had these Harman Kardon Sound Sticks II in the office for about four months.  We have used them for not just with the computer, but with all kinds of setups.

We took them outside and used them with with the MobiBLU during the SausageFest.  We also used it to test out a lot of different gear (Mac mini, Airlink, etc...).

We continued to be impressed with both the versatility and the sound of these speakers.  The built-in amplifier and analog connectors made them extremely compatible with the various audio sources found in a typical home or office environment.

One of our readers (Ryan Considine) pointed out something about the satellite speakers' stand that we had not considered in our FirstLook report.

Ryan noticed that if the weighted ring base were flipped completely around, they actually made the speakers easier to balance and position.  We immediately gave it a try and Ryan was absolutely correct.  Thanks!

We love the sound coming out of these speakers.  We are even more delighted that even after four months, we can still learn something new and fun about this great product!

Harman Kardon

Sound Sticks II

By Wan Chi Lau

Harman Kardon came out with the first version of the iSub back in 1999.  The iSub paired nicely with our Apple's Pro Speakers and Cinema Display.

In 2000, they came out with a set of matching satellite speakers called Sound Sticks. The Sound Sticks connected via USB making them "computers only." They also had no physical volume controls...the sound had to be adjusted via software.

After listening to feedback from their customers, Harmon Kardon released an updated version called Sound Sticks II.

In this review, we are going to take our FirstLook at the Sound Sticks II... the analog version of a set of speakers that belongs in a museum.

Oh...they have them at MOMA? Nice!
